About Dr. Rao
Dr. Jaggi Rao is the founder and medical director of Rao Dermatology, and a board-certified dermatologist, educator, researcher, speaker and clinician.
Every member of our team is trained by Dr. Rao and works under his direct supervision, caring for medical and cosmetic skin concerns of every severity.

Dr. Jaggi Rao, MD, FRCPC (Dermatology)
Dr. Jaggi Rao is a double board-certified dermatologist (Canada and USA) and a certified cosmetic surgeon.
He completed his five-year dermatology training at the University of Alberta, followed by an accredited fellowship with the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in Southern California. Dr. Rao is a full Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta.
Awards for research and teaching
Dr. Rao has won several accolades for research and teaching, including the Canadian Dermatology Association’s Teacher of the Year Award. In 2011, he received Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 under 40 Award. More recently, he was named the Canadian Dermatology Association’s Practitioner of the Year for 2026. He has authored over 50 scientific papers and textbook chapters, and has been an invited speaker at over 500 lectures worldwide to physicians, other professionals and the general public.
Leadership and training
Dr. Rao continues to lend his expertise to various organizations. He sits on the board of directors of CAAM (Canadian Association of Aesthetics Medicine) and acts as a consultant to government (such as the Canadian Standards Association), the laser and pharmaceutical industries, and professional sports teams.
He created ConsultDERM™, a teledermatology service that lets health care providers get a dermatologist’s advice on a patient’s skin problem. ConsultDERM is now called ConsultMD™.
He co-founded AMT (Aesthetics Medicine Training Academy of Canada), which has hosted a comprehensive course in the fundamentals of laser therapy. Dr. Rao is also an official trainer of practitioners in injectables (neuromodulators and fillers).
Dr. Rao continues to teach, advise and care for patients in dermatology and cosmetic surgery.
